BOOK BY DENVER AUTHORS RECEIVES HIGHEST SCORE AND THREE AWARDS AT COLORADO INDEPENDENT PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION AWARDS EVENT
“When Crisis Strikes…What to Do, What to Say, How to Help” Wins First Place in “How To” Category
DENVER, March 22, 2011 — “When Crisis Strikes …What To Do, What To Say, How To Help” by Allidah Poole Hicks and Bonnie Knuti received the highest score of all entries and won three EVVY awards at the Colorado Independent Publishers Association (CIPA) annual awards gala for newly published books. EVVY awards were named for CIPA’s founder, Evelyn Kaye.
The book offers hundreds of simple, practical and often fun suggestions for helping friends and family during a crisis. Sprinkled throughout are heart-warming stories telling how people have jumped in to help with just a small window of time or as part of a larger group effort. It was created in an easy-to-navigate format that allows readers to quickly find especially helpful sections.
“It is sometimes difficult to know the right thing to say or to do when there has been a crisis,” said Hicks and Knuti. “This book guides the reader step by step, giving clear solutions for tough issues such as what to say and what not to say, choosing a gift, bringing meals, writing a sympathy note and organizing a fundraiser or memorial service.”
“Friends really can make a difference when a crisis strikes, and this book will show them how,” the authors said.
“When Crisis Strikes …What To Do, What To Say, How To Help” won the Past President’s Award for receiving the highest score of all entries, first place in the “How To” category and third place in the “Layout and Design” category.
Both Hicks and Knuti are local authors. Allidah Poole Hicks is manager of staff education for the department of nursing at National Jewish Health and lives in Wheat Ridge. A former English teacher, Golden resident Bonnie Knuti supported her teenage son as he battled cancer and grieved for him when he lost that fight.
